Iron Man, Rear View

Iron Man, Birmingham

(L'homme En Fer???)
I love this statue but not everybody in Birmingham shares my opinion. What I like about it is it is so obviously misplaced in its Victorian surroundings, yet it somehow lends a greater harmony to them by being so incongrous. It's by the noted English sulptor Antony Gormley, who produced the famous Angel Of The North, in Gateshead.
I find it moving.Posted by Picasa

Found this on a semi-drunken jaunt around the Bouffay quarter

Duchesse Anne

A lady can get herself a reputation hanging around the street like that, even a Duchess...

It's interesting how many vegetables resemble the male phallus, and it is a subject of much amusement to the English. However on a trip to Paris last year I found these amazing courgettes in a supermarket, the like of which I had never seen in the UK before. Now a couple of them in your hands looks like a...well I'll leave it to your imagination. I mean look at the size of those nipples!

Church, Carquefou, near Nantes

An impressive and distinctive landmark in an otherwise unremarkable location. It reminds me of a rocket launching pad. Maybe it'll blast the congregation into heaven itself one day...that'll wake them up during the sermon!

Sardine Seller, Nantes Centre

Can't recall ever seeing a sardine seller before. Judging from his expression business doesn't look to have been going to well that day. Or maybe the bloke on the right is just annoying him and won't leave him alone...

Secret Alley, Carquefou

Carquefou is nice enough, but not the most interesting of places. However one day on my travels I found this intriguing little passageway which captured my imagination. I am sure there is an exit onto the street at the otherside but maybe I'm mistaken. I wonder what it might have been used for in the past. Can't say I'd fancy being left alone there at night...
